NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital is redefining the possibilities in surgical care. The Anesthesia Technician role involves ensuring the quality of service and monitoring for patients undergoing anesthesia, as well as maintaining and troubleshooting anesthesia equipment. This position requires working per diem hours in the evenings, assisting the anesthesia staff in various duties related to patient care and equipment management.

Responsibilities

Assists the anesthesia staff in the set up and initialization of hemodynamic monitoring equipment

Assists anesthesia staff in care of patients before, during, and immediately after anesthesia which involves the following: Transfer of patients from stretchers to operating table; attachment of vital signs monitoring equipment; Positioning and hold patients for procedures, i.e spinal, epidurals; Assist in endotracheal intubations by preparing and holding equipment; Assist in transfer from operating room to PACU

Conducts performance tests, performs calibration and first level repairs (i.e. battery changes, cable swapping, monitor checks) of anesthesia equipment

Prepares blood pressure transducers. Calibrates them to the appropriate machine. Sets up IV solutions and IV infusions

Sets up equipment for use in the work area such as, but not limited to, connecting input and output hoses, bronchoscopes, and assembling breathing circuits. Delivers required anesthesia equipment as needed

Troubleshoots routine problems with equipment in OR during use, repairing or replacing as necessary

Acts as a liaison to clinical support departments to ensure that all Anesthesia clinical needs are met in the most efficient and effective manner

Assists supervisor in orientation and on-the-job training of employees

Assumes other related duties as needed

Required

High School Diploma or GED

Mechanical training or experience with equipment, including knowledge of the operation of sterilizers and sterility techniques

Previous experience as an Anesthesia Technician
