Responsibilities
Ensures proper supplies, equipment, and instruments are ready for use
Cleans operating room between cases
Restocks operating rooms as necessary to meet par levels
Assists other operating rooms for coverage
Knowledge of surgeon preferences, procedures, instrumentation, and equipment
Prepares cases for next day
May operate sterilizer, lights, suction machine, and other designated equipment
Ensures patient, procedure, operative site, positioning and equipment correspond
Follows the center exposure control plans/blood borne and airborne pathogens
Reports observed or suspected breaks in sterile technique and acts according to policy
Performs hand scrub according to policy and procedure
Arranges instruments and supplies for surgical procedure
Maintains integrity of instruments
Ensures proper counting of sponges, instruments, and sharps
Assists in gowning of other personnel and draping of patient
Anticipates surgeon’s needs
Passes instruments to surgeon and/or assistant as appropriate
Communicates needs to circulators to ensure efficient and uninterrupted progress of procedure
Prepares and preserves specimens
Verifies name, strength, and dosage of medication with circulator; confirms, labels, and places on surgical field
Cleans and disinfects all tables, counter surfaces, stands, and floor
May help transport patient and restock the operating room
Performs other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
High school diploma or equivalent
Graduate of an accredited school of surgical technology
BLS certification (as required by individual ASC policy)
Preferred
One year of current Surgical Tech experience in an OR setting
