Pharmacy Technician or Tech Trainee - Galveston (Days, up to 19 hrs/wk)
The University of Texas Medical Branch is a healthcare organization seeking a Pharmacy Technician or Tech Trainee. The role involves assisting pharmacists in drug distribution, technical services, and clinical services associated with pharmaceuticals preparation, storage, and dispensing.
Responsibilities
Prepares unit-dose medications specific to patient needs including patient’s weight, allergies, and age (e.g., pediatric, neonate, adolescent, adult, and geriatric)
Retrieves and delivers medication orders and supplies
Prepares sterile products utilizing aseptic technique and USP 797 standards
Compounds bulk and extemporaneous pharmaceuticals specific to patients needs including weight and age (e.g., pediatric, neonate, adolescent, adult, and geriatric) utilizing USP 795 standards
Demonstrates the ability to operate automated technology including compounding, repackaging, cartfill and Automated Drug Systems
Communicates effectively with other pharmacy employees, healthcare professionals, and patients while appropriately recognizing age (e.g., pediatric, neonate, adolescent, adult, and geriatric)
Maintains adequate drug inventories in pharmacy areas and patient care areas and notifies the appropriate personnel when shortages and/or outages are noted
Performs quality assurance/improvement audits
Maintains a neat clean and organized work area
Demonstrates flexibility in staffing assignments
Assists pharmacists in filling ambulatory prescriptions specific to patient needs including patient’s weight, allergies, and age (e.g., pediatric, neonate, adolescent, adult, and geriatric)
Assists in record keeping activities in any assigned area
Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure
Performs related duties as required
Retrieves and delivers medication and supplies

Repackages and labels medication items in the inpatient setting specific to patient needs including weight and age (pediatric, neonate, adolescent, adult, and geriatric)
Assists in record keeping activities in any assigned area
Maintains adequate drug inventories in pharmacy areas and patient care areas
Compounds bulk and extemporaneous pharmaceuticals specific to patients needs including weight and age (pediatric, neonate, adolescent, adult, and geriatric)
Demonstrates the ability to operate automated technology including compounding, repackaging, cart fill, and Automated Drug Systems
Performs automated compounding repackaging and cart-fill
Communicates effectively with other pharmacy employees, healthcare professionals, and patients while appropriately recognizing age (pediatric, neonate, adolescent, adult, and geriatric)
Maintains a neat clean and organized work area
Demonstrates flexibility in staffing assignments
Adheres to internal controls established for department
Performs other related duties as requested
Qualification
Required
High school diploma or equivalent
Registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP)
OR Registered as a Pharmacist Intern with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP)
High school or equivalent and no experience required
Preferred
ACPE approved IV (sterile products) certification
Two (2) years pharmacy technician experience
Must be registered with the Texas Board of Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Technician Trainee
