Building Technician II - Houston Public Works

Responsibilities

Performs preventive maintenance and corrective repairs on HVAC, plumbing, electrical, lighting, and general building systems
Troubleshoots equipment malfunctions and completes repairs with minimal supervision
Assists in the installation, replacement, and adjustment of building components and systems
Responds to service requests, work orders, and emergency situations promptly
Monitors building conditions and recommends solutions to improve efficiency, safety, and reliability
Maintains accurate records of work performed in the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS)
Provides guidance and support to Building Technician I staff as needed
Ensures compliance with all safety policies, OSHA standards, and company procedures
Communicates with building occupants and clients, providing a high level of customer service

Qualification

Required

High School Diploma or GED required; technical or trade school certification preferred
2–4 years of experience in building maintenance, facilities services, or mechanical systems
Working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and general building systems
Ability to troubleshoot and repair equipment with moderate complexity
Basic computer skills and experience with CMMS preferred
Strong communication and problem-solving skills
Ability to lift 50+ lbs. and perform physical maintenance tasks
Valid driver's license required

Preferred

Technical or trade school certification preferred
Basic computer skills and experience with CMMS preferred
