Responsibilities
Admits and discharges sick students in the clinic
Administers medication as prescribed, following proper procedures and policies
Maintains appropriate medication documentation
Performs specialized healthcare procedures as prescribed
Treats minor injuries and health emergencies
Contacts emergency services and parents when necessary; performs first aid and CPR until help arrives
Assists school nurse in health screenings, examinations and other medical, health and hygiene procedures
Processes student attendance daily, at principal’s discretion
Provides clerical assistance – typing, filing, maintaining records and ordering supplies
Attends required training, professional development and meetings
Performs other related duties as assigned
May run health or attendance reports from the student information system
Qualification
Required
Some knowledge of medical conditions, symptoms, medications, treatments and proper hygiene
Some knowledge of childhood growth and development
Demonstrated ability to assess illnesses, injuries, seizures and determine appropriate immediate treatment
Demonstrated ability to obtain appropriate medical assistance to handle emergencies
Demonstrated ability to perform basic clerical tasks
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
Demonstrated ability to follow oral and written instructions
Demonstrated ability to work well with students, staff and parents in a professional manner
Must be First Aid/CPR, AED certified and maintain current certifications within the first three months of employment
Applicants considered for employment must successfully complete the following background investigations/tests: Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Criminal History Investigation, State Police Criminal History Investigation, Child Protective Services (CPS) Investigation, Tuberculosis Screening/Test
Preferred
Strongly prefer, LPN, CNA or EMT
