Responsibilities
Operates the following pieces of equipment: dump trucks, garbage trucks, front-end loaders, mowers, light backhoes, sand spreaders, and pumps
Loads and unloads trucks, hauls snow, and transports loads to predetermined disposal points
Must be on call periodically on weekends or after hours
Performs repairs on all sanitation containers and equipment, including 6-yard compactors
Performs required manual labor, picking up bags, shoveling, and cleaning out trucks and containers
Performs related work as required
Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with City policies and procedures
The nature of this position requires the ability to respond to emergencies in a timely fashion
Qualification
Required
Working knowledge of city and state traffic laws
Working knowledge of common hazards and safety precautions necessary for light equipment operation
Skill in the operation of light equipment
Ability to work at arduous tasks for sustained periods of time in all types of weather conditions
Ability to perform minor preventive maintenance as required
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public
High school graduate or equivalent
One year experience as a truck driver or operator of construction and maintenance equipment
Valid North Dakota commercial driver license; insurable under the City's motor vehicle insurance policy
Position is safety sensitive and requires pre-employment drug and alcohol testing and is subject to controlled substance requirements at all times when on duty
