Responsibilities
Acts as clinical assistant to Optometrist
Performs complete ophthalmic history and preliminary exams, sub-specialty tests (refraction, visual field test, color testing and contact lens evaluation etc.)
Interviews patient to obtain and record medical history within the Athena electronic health record
Prepares patients for ophthalmology examination by dilating pupils, identifying changes in visual acuity, obtaining extraocular pressure, and obtaining blood pressure and communicates results to Optometrist
Maintains a safe, secure, and health work environment by establishing and following standards and procedures along with complying with legal regulations
Set up and prep for minor procedures, maintain stock of materials for exam rooms and procedures, follows industry and clinic standards for sterilization of instruments
Is familiar with standard concepts, practices, equipment and procedures within the field
Supporting front desk duties as needed, to include but is not limited to answering phones, scheduling appointments, checking in and checking patients out, etc
Qualification
Required
High School diploma or equivalent
Basic Life Support Certification
Proficiency in computers
Knowledge of customer service principles and practices
One year of previous ophthalmic technician experience
Preferred
Experience with electronic health records
