Salt Lake Community College is Utah’s largest open-access college, and they are seeking an Adjunct faculty member to teach American Sign Language and Deaf culture courses. Responsibilities

Follows the course curriculum outline, prepares and delivers lectures and other classroom activities
Prepares and administers student evaluations
Keeps accurate classroom records
Provides ADA accommodations as directed
Answers questions about courses
Follows SLCC policies and procedures
Proficiency in American Sign Language with demonstrated ability to converse fluently in high level professional and academic conversation in ASL required
Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, culture, ethnic background, and abilities, to maintain good working relationships across the College
Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic background of community college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities

Required

Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States
All employees are expected to maintain a permanent residence within the State of Utah as a condition of employment. New employees must provide a valid Utah residential address within 30 days of their start date
Proficiency in American Sign Language with demonstrated ability to converse fluently in high level professional and academic conversation in ASL required
Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, culture, ethnic background, and abilities, to maintain good working relationships across the College
Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic background of community college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities
Bachelor's degree in American Sign Language, ASL education, Linguistics, or a related field (e.g. Deaf Studies or Deaf Education) from an accredited college or university is required
Teaching experience in ASL
Ability to read and write standard English
Ability to use computer technology and programs, including email, spreadsheets, and program specific applications
Excellent communication skills

Preferred

Master's degree in American Sign Language or related field preferred
Three (3) years full-time or five (5) years part-time college-level teaching experience in American Sign Language
Appropriate certification(s) also required such as ASLTA, CDI, RID, NIC (National Interpreter Certification) and membership in ASLTA and/or RID
