Responsibilities
Use specialized equipment to locate and mark utility lines for water, sewer, gas, electricity and communication
Read and interpret utility maps, blueprints and as-built drawings to determine the precise location of underground utilities
Ensure compliance with 811 call-before-you-dig laws and other relevant regulations
Document utility locations accurately using GIS, GPS and electronic mapping systems
Conduct site inspections before, during and after excavation projects to ensure proper utility markings remain visible and accurate
Communicate effectively with contractors, engineers, municipal departments and the public regarding utility locations and potential hazards
Investigate and resolve utility conflicts, damages and complaints related to locating services
Maintain and calibrate locating equipment to ensure accuracy and functionality
Prepare reports and maintain records of locating activities, damage prevention measures and compliance efforts
Participate in emergency response situations, including after-hours and on-call duties
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Graduation from high school or possession of a recognized equivalency diploma
Valid driver's license
Five (5) years experience within underground utility systems, location techniques and relevant safety standards or related field
Ability to obtain Intermediate MOT (Maintenance of Traffic) Certificate within one (1) year
