Casting (Orthopedic) Technician - Victory Lake Orthopedics

UTMB Health is a healthcare provider seeking a Casting (Orthopedic) Technician. The role involves providing technical and supportive patient care skills, including the application and removal of casts, fitting braces, and assisting with patient flow in an outpatient clinic setting.

Responsibilities

Under the direction of a physician:
Apply cast – fiberglass and plaster
Fit braces – upper and lower extremity
Splints – upper and lower extremity
Molds for Custom Braces
Suture and Staple removal
Assists with patient flow within assigned outpatient clinic setting
Accurately performs test for blood glucose
Safely and properly prepares medications/injections
Provides explanation when obtaining vital signs or other technical skills
Uses aseptic technique and infection control measures in the performance of duties
Measures and records intake and output as ordered
Prepares and assists patients care priorities, treatment plan, objectives, and potential care
Recognizes patient care priorities, treatment plan, objectives, and potential crisis
Under the direction of an RN, provides other treatments and care to patients appropriate to training as assigned
Recognizes and communicates patient needs and unusual occurrences with patients/families
Accurately documents and communicates interventions and measurements
Communicates relevant information to appropriate health care provider
Under supervision, completes accurate, concise, and legible documentation on patient clinic record
Assist in the maintenance of equipment, supplies, and the environment
Checks equipment/supplies for expiration dates, electrical safety tags, intactness, and usability
Cleans equipment and returns to its proper place
Reports equipment and supplies needing replaced or repaired
Stocks rooms, carts, cabinets, etc. as assigned/requested
Practices positive customer and peer relations
Consistently communicates in a professional and courteous manner
Reports and seeks assistance in dealing with guest complaints/concerns
Establishes and maintains a positive rapport with patient/family and co-workers
Consistently responds to customer requests/needs in an appropriate manner
Respect and supports patient rights
Serves as patient/family advocate
Practices principles of patient and employee confidentiality
Utilizes available resources and seeks assistance in dealing with ethical dilemmas, as appropriate
Demonstrates acceptable productivity and practices cost containment
Prioritizes and completes all work in an effective and efficient manner
Demonstrates initiative, resourcefulness, and flexibility
Effectively and efficiently uses time, equipment, and supplies
Functions as an interdependent and supportive team member
Provides support and assistance, as appropriate
With direction, remains calm and purposeful and responds in an appropriate, professional manner in emergent or chaotic situations
Participates in clinic meetings/activities and supports the clinical, departmental, and organizational philosophy and goals
Remains current on all in-service/education/credentials/certifications requirements for position, as appropriate
Exchanges constructive feedback with peers and others
Conducts self-evaluation and participates in developmental goal setting
Assist in maintaining a clean and safe environment
Participates in and supports continuous quality improvement activities at the clinic/departmental level
Accepts responsibility for own growth/development

Orthopedic Technician experienceBLS certificationCertified Orthopedic TechnicianCasting experiencePatient care skills

Required

High School diploma or general education degree (GED)
Two years of directly related orthopedic technician work experience OR Completion of one or more of the following combinations: Orthopedic Tech/Prosthetics Tech Program and zero years of casting experience, Medical Assistant program and 1 year of casting experience, Nurse Assistant program and 1 year of casting experience, Medical Corpsman and 1 year of casting experience, EMT program and 1 year of casting experience, Current enrollment in professional nursing program with completion of introductory nursing course work and zero years of casting experience
BLS certification required
