Sensory Services - Itinerant Teacher Deaf & Hard of Hearing - 1.0FTE & .7FTE

Seattle Public Schools is seeking an Itinerant Teacher for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students to provide direct and consultative services in accordance with Individual Educational Plans (IEPs). The role involves collaborating with general education teachers, audiologists, and parents to ensure that students can access the core curriculum effectively.

Responsibilities

Assists general education teachers in planning and differentiated instruction that meets the needs of individual students who are deaf and hard of hearing for the purpose of allowing individual students who are deaf and hard of hearing to access core curriculum
Collaborates with audiologists for the purpose of determining the needs of students who are deaf and hard of hearing
Collaborates with parents, teachers and other specialists for the purpose of planning appropriate educational programs for students who are deaf and hard of hearing
Provides individualized instruction to students who are deaf and hard of hearing based on the current IEP goals for the purpose of allowing students who are deaf and hard of hearing to access the core curriculum
Maintains student records for the purpose of compliance of state and federal laws pertaining to students with a disability requiring special education services
Evaluates personal professional growth needs and attends in-services as appropriate for the purpose of remaining current with present trends in instructional materials and practices that can be implemented to enhance daily instruction of students who are deaf and hard of hearing

Qualification

Required

Bachelor's degree in Education (Hearing Impaired)
Three (3) years experience working with D/HH
Washington State Teacher Certificate, D/HH
Criminal justice fingerprint & background check
Knowledge of the deaf community and culture
Knowledge of various communication methods used with deaf and hard of hearing students
Skills in assisting of writing IEPs for students who are deaf and hard of hearing
Skills in differentiating instruction needs of students who are deaf and hard of hearing
Skills in training students and teachers in the use and care of amplification systems used by students who are deaf and hard of hearing
Proficiency in ASL and SEE
Ability to communicate with students who are deaf or hard of hearing
Ability to make instruction exciting and challenging to motivate students
Ability to use IEP
Ability to collaborate and consult with assisting technology staff
Ability to observe students to assess student access to instruction

Preferred

Master's degree in Special Education (Hearing Impaired)
Five (5) years experience

Seattle Public Schools benefits are administered by the Washington State Healthcare Authority (HCA) under the School Employees Benefits Board (SEBB).
Eligibility for benefits is determined by the number of hours employees are anticipated to work during the school year (September 1 through August 31). Any employee who is scheduled to work 630 hours or more in a year is eligible for benefits.
