Salt Lake Community College is looking to employ a dynamic individual skilled in understanding and effectively teaching students from a wide variety academic backgrounds. The successful candidate will assist instructors in delivering a welcoming and intellectually challenging learning experience to pre-major biology and pre-health science students.

Responsibilities

Under lecture faculty and/or lab instructor supervision, specialist will aide students with classroom or laboratory activities, provide peer-tutoring on topics, assist the instructor in course preparation, provide general maintenance/organization of classroom and Canvas spaces, and/or grade formative assessments

Specialists will collaborate with course instructors to determine specific tasks for the course

Hours typically range from 2-20 hours per week, depending on curricular needs as determined by the course instructor

Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of people with a variety of abilities and backgrounds, to maintain good working relationships across the College

Ability to work with all groups from a variety of academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, and with community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities

Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States

All employees are expected to maintain a permanent residence within the State of Utah as a condition of employment

High school diploma or equivalent

Completion of the college biology course in which they will assist with a B or above grade

Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of people with a variety of abilities and backgrounds

Ability to work with all groups from a variety of academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, and with community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities
