Responsibilities

Provide referring physicians guidance on appropriate ordering of IR procedures
Provide Central Scheduling assistance with correct scheduling of procedures
Begin scheduled patient workup 5-7 days prior to procedure. This includes: Review of pertinent patient medical history and the ordering physician request
Discuss procedure with the patient or family member prior to visit
Review medications and instruct patients to discontinue meds when necessary
Review NPO status and answer questions concerning procedural sedation and pain management
Arrange for preprocedural lab testing when necessary
Confirm arrival times, recovery needs, and post-procedural care with patient and family
Arrange follow-up appointments when necessary
Confirm ability to obtain procedural consent day of exam
Oversight of patient care from entry into the department through completion of procedure and departure from department. This includes: Patient prep (gowning, IV, anchor foley, baseline VS, etc.) EMR documentation Explain and answer questions about the procedure
Patient education, post-procedure instructions, and teach back
Consult with RN/Interventional Radiologist for preprocedural medications
Set up room equipment, sterile procedural tray, and pull necessary supplies
Pre and post-procedure calls
Inventory management
Troubleshooting equipment failure
Available to educate and assist other departments, doctor offices, ECFs, and central scheduling with the information about IR procedures and scheduling
Train new IR techs and Tech students
Direct daily workflow by triage of patients and procedures and coordination with CT, MRI, US, general radiology, recovery staff, and transportation staff
Cleans and disinfects IR suites and equipment
CPT Coding for IR procedures
Interest and willingness to learn new procedures, techniques, and equipment and work as part of a team
Willingness to work unpredictable hours and take call
Scrub and assist IR physician, circulate, and/or document during procedure
Post-process images for PACS
Escort patient to recovery or assist patient with post-procedure needs and discharge patient out of department and to post-procedure transport

Required

Successful Graduation from an accredited school of radiologic technology
English competency, legible handwriting, good telephone and communication skills, and the ability to multi-task are required
Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) Registered Radiologic Technologist license
American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) Licensure
BLS (Basic Life Support)

Preferred

3 plus years of experience in the field of radiologic technology
Preferred familiarity with medical terminology, computer utilization, familiarity with fluoroscopy equipment, surgical/invasive type environment/procedures, understanding of anatomy/pathology, knowledge of procedural CPT coding, and PACS utilization
