Environmental Spill Technician

The Environmental Spill Technician plays a critical role in protecting the Arctic environment by responding to petroleum and hazardous material spills, supporting cleanup operations, and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations.

Responsibilities

Respond rapidly to oil, fuel, glycol, chemical, and other hazardous material spills across the North Slope
Inspect and maintain emergency spill kits, PPE, and response vehicles for readiness
Support excavation and remediation activities under the direction of site supervisors or environmental specialists
Maintain detailed records of materials used, quantities recovered, weather conditions, and response timelines
Follow all safety procedures, use required PPE, and participate in job hazard analyses and safety briefings
Maintain 100% 'Safety Standards and Accountability' in all areas or mandatory/regulatory requirements, which include:
Maintain compliance with the required HSE Training
Taking necessary action when behaviors or conditions around you may be unsafe
Reporting and addressing all potential safety concerns/incidents/issues promptly and willingly participate and assist in any investigation that may relate to a safety incident
Performs work in strict compliance with permitting requirements, Alaska Safety Handbook (ASH) Standards and other compliance-oriented directives
Participating in safety meetings, working safely, and maintaining a safe work environment as an employee and representative of CCI Industrial Services
Document and record any injury or near miss incident that may occur while you are working
Demonstrate and promote safe work practices by participating in JSA reviews, pre-job walkdowns and safety START card preparations covering work activities and materials required by the company and the client

Required

Familiarity with SPCC (Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure) and Facility Response Plans
Knowledge of chemical properties of petroleum products and other hazardous materials
Experience with Oil spill containment and cleanup technologies (booms, skimmers, sorbents, etc.)
Knowledge of confined space entry, lockout/tagout (LOTO), respiratory protection, and PPE
Operation of spill response equipment (e.g., vacuum trucks, absorbent booms, skimmers)
Minor equipment maintenance and repair
Ability to assess spill situations and determine appropriate containment/clean-up methods quickly
Maintain accurate and legally sound documentation
Strong commitment to following protocols and legal requirements
