Responsibilities

Troubleshoots and repairs electrical service, motor control, and lighting circuits at any facility within the Utilities Department
Troubleshoots, repairs and programs SCADA equipment at any facility within the Utilities Department
Installation, maintenance, overhaul, repair, and testing of power generation and distribution equipment and rotating equipment
Evaluates and recommends changes to the SCADA master plan. Researches, analyzes and recommends system design criteria, including design of interfaces for existing and new equipment and software
Instructs users of SCADA and motor control circuits at any facility within the Utilities Department
Calculates electrical loads for equipment and installs conduit and wiring according to current codes
Keeps abreast of changes in the Electrical Code and Regulations and makes recommendations on their impact to the City
Maintains inventory of supplies used and replaces as needed
Performs Operations & Maintenance duties as assigned
Occasional shift work required along with on-call duties as well
Performs any other duties as required

Required

High school diploma or GED Required
Possession of, or ability to obtain and acquire, Class “D” Water Operations certification from TCEQ within 1 years of employment is required
Ability to obtain and acquire, Class “C” Surface water certification from TCEQ within 3 years of employment is required
Possession of a valid TX Class C driver's license
Basic/General knowledge of electrical components and electricity services
Principles, practices, materials, of general electrical function ranging from low voltage 4-20 milliamp up 480-volt services
Operating principles of plant equipment including valves, pumps, and motors
Methods and techniques of reading and interpreting gauges, recording devices, and related monitoring systems
Tools and equipment used in the operation and maintenance of water treatment plant facilities
Maintenance and repair principles and practices including preventative maintenance procedures
Emergency maintenance and repair procedures related to water treatment facilities
Methods and techniques of conducting laboratory tests and procedures related to water treatment analysis
Mathematical calculations used in the water treatment operations and electrical loads
Comprehending Pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations
Operational and safety regulations pertaining to water treatment plant operations
Occupational hazards and standard safety precautions
Principles and procedures used in the proper handling of electrical components, and chemicals
Principles and practices of customer service
Office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers and applicable software applications
Provide Clear, Clean and Concise penmanship habits and capabilities
Principles and practices of record keeping
Operate, monitor, and maintain a variety of water treatment plant equipment, facilities, and systems
Perform basic inspections and preventive maintenance of treatment plant facilities and equipment
Read and interpret gauges, meters, and other instrument readings and take effective course of action
Diagnose simple operational problems and perform effective maintenance on equipment
Respond to changing demands on water flow, water quality, and equipment requirements
Monitor and adjust plant processes as required
Collect a variety of water samples and conduct appropriate tests in accordance with state and federal regulations and requirements
Compile and record complex data and material
Maintain accurate and detailed logs and records of work performed
Complete emergency response training and perform in emergency situations
Work well with others in a team environment
Complete work within an assigned time frame
Perform math calculations related to assigned duties
Operate assigned equipment and tools in a safe and effective manner
Operate office equipment including computers and applicable software applications
Work independently in the absence of supervision
Demonstrate an awareness and appreciation of the cultural diversity of the community
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work

Preferred

College courses or Electrical Trade school preferred
Experience with computers is desirable
Experience in the operation, repair, and maintenance of machinery, pumps, or mechanical equipment
