Water Production Maintenance Mechanic I (Surface Water)
NEOGOV is seeking a Water Production Maintenance Mechanic I for the City of Gainesville. The role involves performing preventive maintenance and mechanical repairs on City vehicles and equipment, including gasoline and diesel engines and hydraulic systems.

Responsibilities
Inspect, diagnose and locate complex mechanical difficulties in City-owned vehicles and equipment; adjust, repair and/or overhaul the entire spectrum of automotive and related equipment in the municipal fleet
Determine extent of necessary repairs; replace and repair faulty or damaged parts; determine repairs beyond the shop capabilities with approval of Garage Supervisor
Participate in a variety of vehicle service activities including vehicle repair and preventive maintenance
Perform timely and economical repair of City vehicles including automobiles, light and heavy trucks; perform welding duties as required on City vehicles and equipment
Overhaul and tune-up gas and diesel engines including replacing ignition parts and cleaning or replacement of fuel injectors
Repair and adjust engines, transmissions, differentials and clutches on a variety of equipment
Replace or repair faulty parts including wheel bearings, clutches, oil seals, shock absorbers, exhaust systems, steering mechanisms and related parts and equipment
Repair hydraulic systems on a variety of equipment
Maintain and operate the City car wash
Maintain shop cleanliness; repair shop equipment as necessary
Answer phones, radios, assist staff, and pick up and deliver parts and supplies as needed
Perform road-side repairs as required
Perform related duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Two years of responsible experience performing skilled mechanic work in the servicing and repair of vehicles and equipment
Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by specialized training in automotive and equipment repair and maintenance
Possession of a valid driver's license
Methods, procedures, tools, and equipment used in the overhaul, repair and adjustment of gasoline and diesel-powered equipment
Operating and repair characteristics of a full range of City-owned vehicles and equipment
Diesel and hydraulic systems and their maintenance and repair
Modern methods of repair and maintenance of automotive and motorized equipment
Operational characteristics of a wide variety of tools and equipment
Overhaul procedures for engines, transmissions, and carburetors
Safe work practices
Perform the full range of mechanical work including the troubleshooting of equipment for both major and minor repairs
Accurately determine mechanical repair needs
Understand and follow oral and written instructions
Operate and care for a variety of equipment including compressed air tools, mig welder, plasmarc cutter, and acetylene and arc welder
Operate and care of manual and power tools and equipment
Establish and maintain cooperative-working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
Lift heavy objects and perform difficult manual labor
Preferred
Possession of Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certification preferred, but not required. If not ASE certified, must have ability to obtain certification when requested by supervisor
