TEMPORARY Fish Health Laboratory Technician – Brush, Colorado.

The State of Colorado is seeking a temporary Fish Health Laboratory Technician to join the Colorado Department of Natural Resources. The role involves performing complex laboratory testing related to fish diseases, including bacteriology and virology, while also assisting in microbiological assays and sample collection.

Responsibilities

Collecting, receiving, labeling, and analyzing samples related to fish health inspections
Performing microscopic, serological, and biochemical assays to identify bacterial/viral/parasitological pathogens
Maintaining laboratory records including daily equipment logs, media logs, etc
Preparing reagents and media for routine laboratory use
Maintaining laboratory areas, equipment, and glassware in a clean and orderly fashion
Cleaning, sterilizing, and calibrating laboratory equipment as needed
Recording case data and test results accurately and in the specified format
Providing QA program support for the AAHL by completing QA assignments, and ensuring adherence to both the AFS Fish Health Section of the QA Laboratory Program and AAHL SOPs

Required

Must have a bachelor's degree in biology (or related field)
Must be willing and able to work 40 hours per week
Anticipated schedule is Monday through Thursday from 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m
Must be available to work evenings, weekends and holidays
Must have a current & valid drivers' license or reliable transportation
Must have a current & valid driver's license required for operating a state vehicle
Possess strong interpersonal communication skills to deliver excellent customer service
Basic computer skills required (MS Office Suite, Google App Suite)
Ability to work with limited supervision and work well within a team
Must be willing and able to work outside, which may involve inclement weather
Must be able to lift 50-100 pounds repeatedly during the course of a workday

Preferred

Significant experience in a diagnostic microbiological lab environment is preferred
Preference may be given to applicants with or working towards a Natural Resources degree or similar education
PREFERRED EDUCATION: Bachelors Degree in Biological Sciences or comparable work experience
