Responsibilities

Supports sworn and City staff both office and field settings by performing technical, non-sworn law enforcement and customer service duties to address citizen concerns
Responds to non-emergency calls for service from the Temple Sheriff’s Station and process requests for criminal incident and traffic reports, collects evidence, interview witnesses, and testify in court as needed
Provides excellent customer service by interpreting and explaining City ordinances, policies, and procedures to the public
Conducts parking enforcement, patrol City streets and enforce laws and regulations applicable to non-moving vehicles including overnight and street sweeping enforcement, assist in identifying and removing abandoned vehicles in accordance with the California Vehicle Code
Assists with traffic and crowd control at accidents, street closures, City events, other incidents such as malfunctioning signal lights, and direct traffic as needed
Responds to public inquiries, provides information on City programs and services, and directs individuals to appropriate facilities and events
Assists at community events and delivers presentations when required
Follows all City and departmental policies and performs other duties as assigned

Required

High School graduation or GED equivalent and one year of work experience involving frequent public interaction
Possession of a valid Class C motor vehicle operator's license issued by the State of California
Candidates will be required to successfully complete City-administered pre-employment requirements, including Live Scan fingerprinting, a medical examination, and a Los Angeles County Sheriff's background screening, as part of the selection process

Preferred

College coursework and/or applicable training in criminal justice, paralegal studies, business administration, public administration, or a related field is desirable
Possession of an 832 P.C. Certificate (Laws of Arrest, Search and Seizure Training) is desirable
Possession of any other P.O.S.T. Certifications or related training courses is desirable
Possession of a valid CPR/First Aid Certificate is desirable

Benefits

Vacation Leave: To accrue at a total of 80 hours per year of employment for a maximum of 320 hours.
Holidays: 13 paid holidays, including New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents' Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving (2days), Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and 2 Floating Holidays.
Sick Leave: To accrue at a rate of eight (8) hours per month for a maximum accrual of 96 hours per year. Sick leave shall accrue without limitation.
Medical Insurance: Medical Insurance Coverage provided by the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS). 100% paid for employee and 50% toward dependent coverage. Lifetime benefit of 50% for retiree and 25% toward dependent coverage is available to fully vested CalPERS members who retire with 5 consecutive years of full-time service with the City upon retirement.
Dental Insurance: Provided by Delta Dental (DeltaCare USA and Delta Dental PPO). The City covers 100% of employee premiums and 75% of dependent coverage. Lifetime benefits are available for fully vested employees after 5 years of full-time employment with the City.
Vision Insurance: Provided by VSP. 100% paid for employees. Lifetime benefit for fully vested employees which is 5 consecutive years of full-time employment with the City upon retirement.
Employee Opt Out: The City will provide employee with an "opt-out" stipend of $500.00 per month in lieu of medical insurance coverage.
Employee Optional (Supplemental) Benefits Plan: The City provides $2,944.00 per fiscal year for each full-time employee to use for the sole purpose of payment of employee out-of-pocket health insurance premiums.
Deferred Compensation: The City matches employee contributions to the 457 plan, up to 3% of the employee’s base salary.
Life Insurance: $50,000 per full-time employee.
Disability: Provided for non-occupational accidents or illness. Premiums are paid by the City for full-time employees.
Retirement: The City participates in the CalPERS retirement system. Effective January 1, 2013, new members to CalPERS or who have more than a six month break in service between employment in a CalPERS (or reciprocal) agency will be subject to the provisions of the Public Employees' Pension Reform Act of 2013 (PEPRA) and will receive the 2% @ 62 benefit formula.
Social Security: The City does not participate in Social Security. The City and employee both contribute 1.45% for Medicare.
