AUTOMOTIVE TECHNICIAN I
The City of Fairburn is seeking to fill an Automotive Technician I who is experienced and professional with extensive automotive technical skills. The Automotive Technician I is responsible for the inspection, repairs, and maintenance of city-owned vehicles and equipment, including some fabrication and welding work related to vehicle repair.

Responsibilities
Corrects vehicle deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major assemblies, components, parts, or systems, such as: power and drive trains, electrical, air conditioning, fuel, emission, brakes, steering, hydraulics; making adjustments and alignments including bearing loads, gear tooth contact, valve mechanisms, governors, oil systems, control linkages, clutches, and traction units
Performs repairs and preventative maintenance on all city owned vehicles and equipment
Inventories stock, places orders, verifies receipts
Works with vehicle operators to identify issues
Maintains vehicle records up to date by recording services and repairs
Maintains safe and clean work environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations
Tracks, stores, inspects or properly disposes of hazardous materials on site
Responsible for repairs on minor body damage
Performs other related duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
High school or GED; supplemented by three (3) years of automotive repair experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job
Valid State of Georgia driver's license
G1 ASE Certifications or ability to obtain within one (1) year of employment
Series ASE certification of ability to obtain within two (2) years of employment
Knowledge of basic arithmetic operations
Knowledge of safety practices in the use of hand tools, equipment and supplies used in repair and maintenance of motorized vehicles and equipment
Knowledge of the standard practices, materials, tools and equipment used in the repair and maintenance of motor vehicles and engines
Ability to read mechanical and automotive blueprints, diagrams and manuals
Ability to disassemble, repair, and assemble engines and parts
Ability to communicate with vehicle and equipment users and other mechanics about required repairs
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English in person and over the phone
Ability to demonstrate sensitivity, tact and excellent customer service
Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose malfunctions in automotive/equipment components or systems and make minor and major repairs
Ability to prepare paperwork for records and data entry
Ability to work in a team-based environment
Skill in developing and maintaining effective working relationships with co-workers and customers
Preferred
G1 ASE or Manufacturer certifications preferred
Experience working in General Automotive Service industry or Fleet Maintenance
