1st Year Academic Advisor

Roanoke-Chowan Community College is seeking an Academic Advisor responsible for delivering high-quality academic advising and registration support to new students. The advisor will promote student success, support career development, and enhance the student experience through personalized guidance and monitoring academic progress.

Responsibilities

Deliver professional academic advising and registration support to new students through a case management approach
Participate in training sessions to gain a comprehensive understanding of Roanoke-Chowan Community College (R-CCC) resources, policies, and procedures
Collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, and leadership as an integral member of the advising team
Promote student success and career development by building strong relationships with students, faculty, and staff across the college
Monitor students’ progress regularly and provide consistent, personalized feedback to support their academic journey
Adhere to all institutional policies and procedures, always ensuring confidentiality and compliance
Provide timely, courteous, and accurate customer service to students, faculty, and staff in a professional manner
Assist students in identifying and overcoming barriers to their academic success
Support the assignment and transition of students to faculty advisors as appropriate
Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor

Required

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
Must demonstrate interpersonal skills applicable to working with a diverse population
Must be able to operate a computer equipped with software such as Microsoft Office Suite, Email, and other software related to the position

Preferred

Master's degree from an accredited institution, with experience in Student Services or Student Affairs within higher education
Proven ability to interact effectively with the public in high-pressure situations
Proficient in office applications and other essential computer skills
