Transit Service Technician

The Transit Service Technician is responsible for performing end-of-day servicing, routine cleaning, and safety checks of Green Bay Metro vehicles, ensuring they are prepared for the next day of service.

Responsibilities
Fuels buses and services vehicles, replaces lubricating and other fluids
Pulls fare box vaults, performs safety checks such as tire pressure, tread condition, wheelchair lift operation and tie down stations, inspects wiper blades, notes overall body condition, checks and changes lights
Prepares vehicles for the next day of service, including cleanliness of interior and exterior with use of power vacuum systems, power washers and drive through power bus washer
Checks engines, transmissions, and hydraulic and electrical systems in order to identify problems or malfunctions and report problems to skilled mechanics or supervisors for diagnosis as required
May make vehicle exchanges
May operate wheelchair lifts manually and/or disable antilock system if required
Maintains service records and uses work defect cards
Keeps work area clean
Reports unsafe conditions
Operates Green Bay Metro vehicles relative to maintenance activities
Performs other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
High school diploma or equivalent
One year related experience
Must possess a valid driver's license with an excellent driving record and the ability to obtain a Wisconsin Commercial Driver's License with passenger endorsement within six months of hire
General mechanical knowledge of the basic practices using in servicing, lubricating, and making common adjustments to automotive type equipment
Knowledge of hand tools and power tools common to mechanical repair
Skill in performing routine, repetitive, mechanical repairs and adjustments on transit vehicles
Ability to operate buses for maintenance
Ability to utilize a computer and the required software
Ability to follow written and oral directions
Ability to read and understand service manuals, work defect cards, etc
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
Ability to establish effective working relationships with staff and the public
Ability to work the required hours of the position
Ability to perform the following activities: Lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds, Frequent standing, walking, bending, crawling and stooping, Ability to reach, stoop and climb, Ability to focus for long period of time on projects, Ability to work in varied environmental conditions, Ability to drive
