Responsibilities
Safely and efficiently operate a Large Excavator (101 hp or higher)
Perform minor maintenance and servicing of the assigned equipment
Drive and operate Combination & Fifth Wheel Tractor Trailer Trucks used to transport heavy and medium size equipment
Perform tasks according to state and local laws concerning D.O.T. and wide load operation of tractor trailers
Safely operate and maintain equipment capable of excavating, widening, grading sloping and stabilizing canal and ditch slopes and tops with required backfilling
Trench for drainage culvert installation
Cleaning of right-of-ways
Removal of debris and stumps
Load dump trucks and trash trucks
Inspect and maintain the equipment's tire inflation; oil levels; leaks (oil, fuel, water, etc.); coolant in radiator; lights and signal devices; clear and clean windows, lamp lenses, mirrors; and functioning windshield wipers
Operate all equipment assigned to lower level Equipment Operators, as well as all equipment assigned to the level of Equipment Operator IV, as assigned by the department
Perform related work as required
May not be relieved of duty when the Parish President or his designee recommends a voluntary or mandatory evacuation of Jefferson Parish
Qualification
Required
Current employment and permanent civil service status with Jefferson Parish; plus: Verifiable, satisfactory experience (or completion of an approved Parish training course) in operating a Large Excavator (101 hp or higher); OR Certification by an Appointing Authority that applicant has been adequately trained to operate a Large Excavator (101 hp or higher)
Minimum age of 18 years; plus, verifiable, satisfactory work experience (or certifiable completion of an acceptable training course) in the operation of a Large Excavator (101 hp or higher)
Possession of a valid Louisiana Standard (Class E), Chauffeur's (Class D), or Commercial (Classes A, B, C) Driver's License in order to perform the tasks associated with the position
