Responsibilities

Organizes, directs, and coordinates State parks operations and maintenance in a county-wide district involving two or more widely separated crews

Performs various general support functions

Oversees the upkeep of campgrounds, historic structures, comfort stations, cabins, water systems, access roads, parking areas, cultural sites, and scenic resources

Educates the public on State Parks rules and regulations, providing a respectful and responsible experience for all

Promotes the stewardship and protection of Hawaii’s unique culture and natural beauty

LEGAL AUTHORIZATION TO WORK: The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State shall be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States

General Experience Requirement: Two (2) years of experience in any one or a combination of the following: 1. Groundskeeping, grounds maintenance and/or related work utilizing a variety of hand tools and light motorized equipment. 2. Unskilled or semi-skilled work requiring the use of simple tools found commonly in the building or mechanical trades

Specialized Experience Requirement: Two (2) years of semi-skilled or skilled building trades experience concerned with such activities as constructing or maintaining buildings, shelters and other similar wooden or concrete structures; making repairs to the same in order to keep them in operating condition and to extend their serviceability and usefulness; inspectional experience involved in checking various phases of construction against detailed plans and specifications

Supervisory Aptitude: Demonstration of aptitude or potential for the performance of supervisory duties through successful completion of regular or special assignments which involve some supervisory responsibilities or aspects of supervision, e.g., by serving as a group or team leader; or in similar work in which opportunities for demonstrating supervisory capabilities exist; or by the completion of training courses in supervision accompanied by application of supervisory skills in work assignments; and/or by favorable appraisals by a supervisor indicating the possession of supervisory potential

License Requirement: Applicants must possess a valid driver's license at the time of appointment

Lift and Carry: Applicants must be able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted and lift and carry objects weighing up to 100 pounds assisted by another person and/or use of equipment (e.g., hoisting equipment, hand truck), with or without reasonable accommodation
