Responsibilities

Perform technical work dispatching law enforcement, medical, fire, rescue and other equipment and personnel in response to emergency and non-emergency situations
Working at a communications console for extended periods of time
Analyzing communications
Detailed & accurate typing
Speaking distinctly
Deal courteously with the public and emergency responders under stressful conditions
Working varying shifts, which will include weekend and holiday schedules

Required

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school
Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain DCI (Division of Criminal Investigations), Basic Telecommunicator, EMD (Emergency Medical Dispatch) and CPR certifications
The position requires the ability to type 35 wpm
Working at a communications console for extended periods of time
Analyzing communications
Detailed & accurate typing
Speaking distinctly
Ability to deal courteously with the public and emergency responders under stressful conditions
Working scheduled shifts, which will include weekend and holiday schedules
An official completed Halifax County Application for Employment (HR1107) and college transcripts are required to fully evaluate your qualifications for this position
A criminal background check will be required prior to hiring
A pre-employment drug test will be required of this position with the results being received (negative) prior to the first day of employment
Compliance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986, we will employ only those individuals who are U.S. citizens or legal aliens authorized to maintain employment in the United States

Preferred

Experience in computerized dispatching or in law-enforcement, EMS, or fire dispatching
Knowledge of the Halifax County area
