Responsibilities
The Lead Fiber Technician routinely analyzes network performance data to identify potential bottlenecks or areas for improvement in the fiber optic network. Based on this analysis, the decision to reroute traffic or upgrade specific segments of the network is made independently. This involves judging the most effective way to allocate resources to maintain optimal network performance and reliability, ensuring that the network meets current demand and is scalable for future needs. These decisions require a deep understanding of network architecture and the technical capabilities of the infrastructure, as well as the ability to predict future trends in network usage
When network outages or performance issues arise, the Lead Fiber Technician independently assesses incident reports, diagnostic data, and system alerts to quickly pinpoint the source of the problem. This involves making judgments about the severity of the issue, determining whether it’s a hardware failure or external interference, and deciding on the immediate steps for mitigation. The decision on how to best deploy technical teams for onsite repairs, whether to reroute network traffic to minimize user impact, or to escalate the issue to higher-level support or external vendors, is made based on this initial assessment. These judgments are critical for minimizing downtime and maintaining the integrity and security of the network, requiring a rapid, informed response to prevent further disruption
Qualification
Required
Five (5) years of experience
Associates degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Telecommunications, or a related field
Completing the Building Industry Consulting Service International (BICSI) Technician (TECH) certification
Deep understanding of network architecture and the technical capabilities of the infrastructure
Ability to predict future trends in network usage
