CLAIMS TECHNICIAN (WORKERS' COMPENSATION)

The City of Torrance is currently seeking a responsive and customer service-oriented Claims Technician to join the Workers' Compensation Team. The Claims Technician performs responsible paraprofessional duties for Workers' Compensation cases, requiring discretion and independent judgment, while managing case files and providing support for injured City employees.

Responsibilities

Meet with departments for case updates
Maintain current and accurate claim records
Prepare statistical reports
Establish and manage case files
Perform preliminary investigation of accidents related to claims
Respond to inquiries and provide information regarding benefits
Compose routine letters and correspondence

Required

A bachelor's degree from an accredited college in business administration, public administration, risk management, human resources, or a closely related field
Two years of progressively responsible clerical or administrative experience which included duties requiring the use of initiative and independent judgment
Clerical or administrative experience or training related to workers' compensation and insurance
Knowledge of Workers' Compensation laws, rules and regulations, jurisdiction, functions and procedures of the Workers' Compensation Appeals Board
Knowledge and experience with lost time workers' compensation claims, notice requirements, and benefit calculations
Effective interpersonal and customer service skills (face to face and over the phone)
The ability to work autonomously and make independent decisions
The ability to handle multiple tasks with shifting priorities

Preferred

Experience or training related to insurance, risk management or workers' compensation
