Responsibilities

Operates, inspects, and maintains water filtration plant equipment and systems as required for the ef?cient and effective operation of the City's water treatment plant
Performs all work in compliance with all applicable policies, procedures, regulations, and standards of quality and safety
Monitors all equipment related to water processing
Monitors water quality and ?ow; makes chemical adjustments to raw and ?nished water to produce water of high quality and aesthetic appearance; makes ?ow adjustments as necessary
Backwashes ?lters; calibrates chemical feeds; pours chemicals in hopper; operates and maintains belt press; operates generator for load control; maintains sludge basin levels, and performs other duties as assigned
Collects water samples and performs routine physical and chemical tests of water quality at all stages of treatment; records test results. Maintains laboratory equipment; veri?es and calibrates meters; records temperatures of incubator and refrigerator
Maintains equipment and tools; assists in performing any necessary repairs of plant equipment
Receives and stocks chemicals and supplies
Receives and responds to customer inquiries, requests, and complaints
Answers the telephone and interacts with a variety of people, including the general public, other co-workers, federal and state regulation personnel, city administration, etc
Responds to emergencies as required; subject to emergency call-backs
Maintains an orderly and safe work environment
Operates computers, pumps, motors, meters, chemical readers, and other plant equipment; uses mechanics tools, electrician’s tools, lab instruments, and various other hand and power tools
Prepares and submits reports and records required by the department and regulatory agencies
Interacts and communicates with a wide variety of individuals and groups in the performance of duties such as supervision, co-workers, other City personnel, customers, and the general public
Performs bacterial kill and sterilization
Performs general maintenance and housekeeping duties as required
This position is subject to emergency call-back under certain conditions or circumstances
Maintain a drug-free workplace that ensures the safest and highest quality product
This position is a safety-sensitive position and is subject to ongoing random drug testing
Performs other related duties as assigned
Possess and maintain a valid SC driver's license
Must possess and maintain a Class C Water Treatment Operator’s Certification as required by the SC Department of Health and Environmental Control
Provide an adequate and safe supply of potable water to our customers
Interacts and communicates with customers and city personnel/co-workers, including upper management, customers, City Manager, city officials, and the general public
Ensure the accurate, safe, and continual operation of pumping stations, testing, recordkeeping, filtration, and delivery systems of the water filtration plant operation system
May be subject to a call back during emergencies
Participate in the development and administration of the division budget, identifying equipment, materials, and supply needs
Participate in the development and implementation of departmental goals and objectives; assist in identifying and implementing opportunities for improving customer service, utility service delivery methods, and procedures
Performs related work as needed
Maintain proficiency by attending conferences and meetings, reviewing reports, reading professional journals, and meeting with others in the area served
Maintain work areas in a clean, safe, and orderly manner
Possess and maintain a South Carolina driver’s license
Ensure water filtration plant operations are within all established routine working, personnel, ethical, safety, and regulatory guidelines, rules, and regulations of federal, state, and departmental agencies

Required

High school diploma or GED from an accredited school or source recognized by the South Carolina Department of Education supplemented by one to two years of operational experience in a water filtration operational setting or a combination of training and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform to the expected performance of all job related requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid SC driver's license
Must possess and maintain a minimum of a Class C Water Plant Operator's Certification as required by the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control
