Responsibilities
Supervision of crews to maintain and construct streets/roadways to include placing asphalt, site clearing and grading, hauling materials, installing curb and gutter, and installing sidewalks, etc
Assists with supervision of crews to maintain and construct Street and Drainage infrastructure to include but not limited to; pouring/placing concrete, excavating and backfilling roadway embankment, removing and installing storm drain pipe, site clearing and grading, placing rip rap, hauling materials, installing guardrail, cleaning storm drain pipe using a vacuum/jet truck, installing curb and gutter, installing sidewalk, etc
Supervision in positioning traffic control devices around work zone to conform with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, hand signals, and two-way radios
Oversees obtaining the necessary tools and equipment for job and loading onto truck
Ensures tools are in good condition and in proper working order, oversees the cleaning of tools and equipment and ensures that tools and equipment are stored properly
Attends departmental and safety meetings as required
Maintains uniforms and safety attire to conform to proper dress codes and safety rules at all times. Performs additional tasks in support of the department as needed or upon request
Be willing to work during non-duty hours, holidays, and weekends when necessary to achieve goals
Required on call rotation with other supervisory positions
Qualification
Required
High School Diploma/GED
Minimum of 5 years experience in a related field with some supervisory experience
Valid driver's license
Knowledge of organizational and operational procedures of streets and drainage division
Knowledge of proper operation and maintenance of assigned tools and equipment
Knowledge of Public Works safety rules and procedures
Knowledge of policies, rules and regulations of the City of Phenix City
Ability to comprehend written directives, policies, and rules
Ability to write to assist in completing daily reports
Ability to communicate in order to converse with supervisor
Ability to communicate with co-workers regarding work related activities
Ability to count, add and subtract whole numbers
Ability to comprehend oral instructions
Ability to verbally communicate to converse with supervisors, crew members, and coworkers both in person and over a two way radio and cell phone
Ability to follow instructions and efficiently complete tasks
Ability to exercise judgment particularly in tasks involving safety of self and others
Ability to work under immediate supervision and carry out assigned tasks
Ability to work as a member of a team
Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner
Ability to be available to report to any Public Works related calls while active in the on call rotation
