Library Associate (Part-Time)
The City of Santa Ana is looking for results-oriented individuals to join their library team. The Library Associate will assist patrons with library services, respond to reference questions, and support library programs and outreach activities.

Responsibilities
Assist library patrons in the effective use of Library collections, facilities and services
Respond to moderately difficult research, reference questions
Assist Librarians in reviewing and evaluating literature in specialized fields of knowledge for purchase by the Library
Assists with collection development and maintenance
Assists with outreach activities and with press releases, flyers and brochures
Assists with planning, preparing, promoting, and conducting a wide variety of library programs in a diverse community
Assists with or conducts library tours for schools, parents, and community groups
Visits schools and other community centers to provide and promote library programs and services
Assists with planning and preparing bibliographies and displays to inform and promote participation in library programs
Gather statistics and write routine reports
Refers more difficult problems concerning section or unit procedures and policies to the appropriate staff member
Participates cooperatively in work team activities and performs other related functions as assigned
Qualification
Required
Two years of experience in a library system, archives or special collections setting, or any equivalent combination of experience and training
Knowledge of principles, practices, methods and materials of modern public library systems
Knowledge of standard reference materials/methods
Knowledge of principles and techniques of classifying and cataloging and methods of library automation
Knowledge of popular authors and titles, literature, and current reading trends
Knowledge of basic use of office equipment, computers and printers, Windows environment, other software applications, Internet and database searching techniques, and the usage of technology in libraries
Ability to communicate effectively with different age groups
Ability to analyze data and write reports
Ability to assist with planning, organizing and overseeing program activities
Ability to assist with developing and refining procedures
Ability to perform simple computer troubleshooting tasks when necessary
Ability to maintain effective working relationships with the public, volunteers, and other employees
Must be able to work a minimum of 15 hours per week, including mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends
Possession and retention of an appropriate, valid driver's license or the ability to use alternative forms of transportation that would reasonably meet the needs of the position
Preferred
Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish or Vietnamese is highly desirable
Benefits
Part-Time employees accrue paid sick leave at the rate of one (1) hour of paid sick leave for every thirty (30) hours worked up to a maximum accrual of 6 days or 48 hours.
Employees are eligible to use 3 days or 24 hours of accrued paid sick leave in a 12-month period.
