$79K/yr - $101K/yrThe City of Monroe is seeking a motivated and dependable Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) Operator I or II to join our Public Works team. This position is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the City’s wastewater treatment plant and associated pump stations.

Responsibilities
Perform the necessary duties to safely and efficiently maintain and operate the city’s Wastewater Treatment Plant and Sewer Lift Stations. Typical duties include monitoring plant operations with daily checks, perform preventative maintenance activities of plant equipment, cleaning tanks and process equipment and perform daily plant upkeep, operate solids dewatering systems, and troubleshoot equipment and process problems when they arise
Operate equipment such as a 5 cubic yard dump truck, pick-up truck, loader and forklift
Operate small hand tools and equipment necessary to maintain the facility
Record and log plant operating data as necessary. Perform laboratory and field tests required by State regulatory permits
Respond to public inquiries in an appropriate manner. Refer certain inquiries to the applicable City Department
Be available for on-call standby duty as scheduled on weekends or evenings if directed
Maintain reliable and dependable attendance
Perform other duties as directed
Qualification
Required
High School diploma and/or GED equivalent
Possess a valid Washington State Driver's License
Level 1: Ability to obtain a Group I Washington State Wastewater treatment plant operator certification within one year from hire date
Level 2: Hold current Group II Washington State Wastewater treatment plant operator certification
Prior experience in, and knowledge of, sewage treatment plant maintenance operations and/or experience in a related field that provides the required skills and knowledge
Must be available for overtime and for weekends and/or occasional holidays
Must be available to work one of three shifts, staffed seven days a week
Must live within a 30-minute response time to the WWTP plant
Any equivalent combination of education, experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities will be considered
Knowledge of work hazards and proper safety procedures, the ability to follow procedures, and wear applicable safety gear
Knowledge of equipment, tools and techniques necessary to maintain mechanical equipment, pumps, and perform required duties
Knowledge of the activated sludge process
Ability to coordinate various activities and projects with changing priorities, coordinate equipment use, schedule repairs and maintain records
Ability to quickly grasp new techniques, remain calm in stressful situations, relate to various personality styles in a calm, professional manner
Ability to successfully complete various required training classes and obtain certificates necessary for job performance, maintenance and improvement (i.e., flaggers, basic first aid, etc.)
Ability to establish and maintain working relationships at various levels
Intermediate computer and math skills
