Responsibilities
Responds directly to inmate requests for assistance using in-house or referral sources
Coordinates volunteer schedules and ensure Correction Officers are aware of daily programs
Provides necessary support and supplies for volunteers
In the absence of the Inmate Programs Manager, provides assessments for 17-year-old inmates
Receives referrals from Corrections Officers who believe an inmate needs intervention
Serves as liaison with other professional criminal justice employees, medical and social workers
Counsels' individuals, in the absence of the Chaplain, through times of crisis due to death, illness, relationship breakdown, and other incidences
Provides guidance and counseling to inmates with struggles such as drug/alcohol abuse, family violence, parenting, and other issues and situations
Provides spiritual intervention for inmates seeking spiritual guidance
Assists the Chaplain in planning ceremonies or services such as baptisms and the sacrament of communion
Assists in providing other services that are allowed by the administration
Immediately reports any circumstance that jeopardizes the safety and security of the facility to immediate supervisor or corrections staff
Keeps records of requests for religious materials, baptisms, and other services as required by the Hays County Sheriff’s Office
Renders credible testimony in court proceedings, including Justice Courts, County Courts, District Courts, and any U.S. Federal Court
Performs other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
High School Diploma or GED
Three years of experience providing counseling and spiritual guidance to others
Class C TX driver's license
