Responsibilities

Monitor patients’ heart rhythms using specialized equipment

Constantly observe the cardiac monitor’s screen

Interpret the data received

Report any significant changes or abnormalities to the healthcare team

Qualification

Required

High School diploma or equivalent

Training as an EMT, AEMT is acceptable

BLS is required

Documentation of successful completion of an EKG interpretation course required or similar training within a job role (ex. EMT)

Proven work experience as a Monitor Technician or a position that requires frequent EKG interpretations (EMT, AEMT, etc.)

Excellent ability to monitor EKG rhythms and recognize abnormalities

Knowledge of medical terminology

Basic computer skills required

Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbal and in writing

Ability for high performance under stressful situations

Must be able to prioritize, multi-task and follow through

Able to stand/work for most of a 12 hr. shift

Must be able to bend/lift 25-50 lbs. (assisting patients in and out of bed, etc.)

Preferred

Associates degree in a healthcare-related field preferred but not required

Certified Cardiographic Technician preferred

Knowledge of working within an electronic health record desired

Additional languages preferred
