Responsibilities
Work directly for the Hickory Police Department, assigned to the Support Services Division as an unarmed uniformed security aide to assist in securing assigned areas throughout the City of Hickory
Conduct security checks of these locations on foot, on a bicycle, or in a motor vehicle, to ensure the safety and security of citizens, personnel, and property
Make reports to the proper authority if a situation arises
Maintain radio communications with the Hickory Police Department Communications Center and file all necessary reports when required by the Hickory Police Department
Make some electronic reports via computer and require basic computer skills
Communicate with the general public in a face-to-face setting to give directions and answer inquiries
Communicate internally with other employees face-to-face, by telephone, or by portable radio to receive instructions and information regarding daily duties
Qualification
Required
Current high school seniors only
Must be at least 18 years old and currently working on completing a high school diploma
Must be accepted to participate in the Apprenticeship NC program through the North Carolina Community Colleges System
Must have a valid Class 'C' driver's license
Must not have been convicted of a felony and must undergo a thorough background investigation
Must be able to work part-time duty hours that may vary as scheduled
Applicants must meet the City criteria for an acceptable driving record
