Roadway CEI Technician II (Middle Tennessee)

Responsibilities

Supports work of Project Managers throughout the course of project cycle
Records, measures, and verifies quantities
Reviews Request for Payments and Invoices, approval, sign-off
Maintains daily logs and field books (electronic or hardcopy) of construction progress, site visitors, problems and resolutions
Apprises owner of project progress and problems
Attends (and may conduct) progress meetings to discuss status and problems
Inspects roadway materials used by the contractor (reviewing confirmation that all materials conform to owner specifications)
Performs testing of construction materials (concrete, asphalt, soils, etc.) as required by owners specifications
Creates and approves contract change orders based on field modifications
May create newsletters showing project status and progress
Works to meet and exceed client needs throughout project
Consults with supervisor to determine project details, such as plan preparation, acceptance testing, and evaluation of field conditions
Directs work and trains CEI Technician I and other field inspection staff as needed
Reports maintenance problems occurring at project site to supervisor and collaborates to resolve issues
Responds to client suggestions and complaints
Engages in self-education and training in order to keep up with current industry trends and changes
Performs responsibilities consistent with ethical engineering standards in the company handbook
Writes staff reports, letters, and reports on construction activities as needed
Due to the nature of work being completed, as noted in the essential functions above, and the regular use of an SSR provided truck, constant and vigilant awareness of all roadway safety hazards and self monitoring of safe practices while operating company owned vehicles. Vehicles are to only be used for SSR related business

Required

High School diploma or equivalent and four years of experience in building construction
Technical school graduate and at least two years of experience in building construction
Possession of a valid state issued Driver's License and required auto insurance
OSHA 10-Hour Construction certification and necessary testing certifications (concrete, asphalt, soils, etc.)
Knowledge of DOT Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction, construction regulations, and statutes regarding generally accepted construction and trade practices
Basic knowledge and understanding of Microsoft Office Suite (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
Basic knowledge of state and/or local construction and building guidelines
Basic knowledge of construction practices relating to roadway reconstruction, rehabilitation, pavement management
Basic Computer Skills – ability to use computers and related technology efficiently
Interpersonal Skills – ability to interact positively and work effectively with others
Comprehension – ability to understand information, ideas, and direction presented in writing and/or verbally communicated
Written Communication Skills – ability to clearly deliver a message through written words using correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation
Speech Clarity – ability to speak clearly and in a common language so that others can understand you
Detail-Oriented – ability to achieve accuracy and thoroughness when accomplishing a task
Judgement and Decision-Making Skills – ability to make reasoned judgments that are logical and well thought out
Organizational Skills – can marshal resources (people, funding, material, support, etc.) to get things done
Technical Writing Skills – skilled in the area of summarizing or explaining technical information in a clear, concise, and accurate way

Preferred

Knowledge and experience conducting construction bridge inspections of the foundation, substructure and superstructure
