Responsibilities

Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of building permits and the permitting process, and communicates that knowledge in a courteous, concise, and solution-oriented manner to the customer
Accepts applications and fees, provides assistance to customers in preparing applications, reviews applications for completeness, and ensures that the permit review process is timely and orderly. Utilizes proprietary permitting software to issue and maintain records of permits
Possesses a full understanding of how permitting fits in with other elements of the development process (planning, engineering, utilities, etc.) and utilizes this knowledge to not only communicate the processes to the applicant, but to provide a higher level of customer service by finding solutions for the customer when issues arise. Coordinates with other City departments and functions to ensure that the review process is orderly as possible for the customer
Prepares letters and memoranda, reports on permit volume and other related information, and other similar tasks at the direction of the Building Official or Community Development Director
Acts as an administrative assistant and receptionist, receives, screens and routes calls and mail, coordinates meeting and appointments
Performs general office work, maintains and scans files including an active knowledge of Florida public records laws, briefs supervisor on pertinent information and scheduling of priority matters, inputs information on computer
Assists and backs up Senior Administrative Assistant position, which includes knowledge of certain functions of the Planning, Engineering, and Economic Development functions of the Community Development Department
Follows safe working practices and has a working knowledge of safety practices and procedures in accordance with the City’s Safety and Health Program
All employees serve an essential role in the City’s disaster preparation and/or disaster recovery efforts, as may be designated by the City’s Emergency Manager
Performs related tasks or other duties as required or assigned

Required

Graduation from High School or a GED equivalent
Two (2) years related experience
Proficiency in Microsoft Office
Must possess a valid Florida Driver's License with an acceptable driving record
Must have or be able to complete ICS 100 and 700 courses within six (6) months of hire

Preferred

A minimum of two (2) years of experience in construction, building, or permitting
Successful completion of the ICC Permit Technician course
