Material Handling Technician

City of Loveland is seeking a Material Handling Technician to facilitate the shipping, receiving, inspecting, storage, issuing, staging and distribution of inventory and non-inventory materials. This entry-level position offers the opportunity for growth as knowledge and abilities progress.

Responsibilities

Replenish inventories by receiving stock materials from vendors, unload delivery trucks, inspect shipments for damage and accuracy based on order
Process receiving documents, including updating purchasing/inventory system. Maintain receiving records
Familiarize with and utilize material locations and material applications for effective and accurate disbursement. Become familiar with inventory cycle count procedures, and become familiar with all equipment used in the warehouse and yard. Demonstrate an understanding of shipping and receiving procedures. Label stock material with correct stock number and store in the warehouse or storage yard
Unload, inspect, organize, tag and complete all documentation for electric utility cable, transformers and switchgears. Unload, inspect, and organize large items for construction needs such as concrete products (i.e. transformer pads, street light foundations), 20' PVC conduit, and Streetlight poles up to 41' long
Issue materials by picking and staging, or 'kitting', electric, water, and fiber optic warehouse material for utility and broadband crews and contractors. Load/unload large reels of cable for broadband or electric line crews and contractors
Become familiar with and utilize purchasing and inventory (P/I) management system for stock material analysis, data entry and documentation updates or uploads with knowledge and understanding of account structure
Accurately Issue, return and credit inventory transactions using the P/I system by ensuring account, work order and project numbers are correct and valid
Provide receiving services for non-stock materials delivered to the warehouse. These services include unloading delivery vehicles, inspecting shipments, processing receiving reports and notifying originators
Distribute stock and non-stock material by picking, loading onto trucks and delivering to specified city-wide locations
Perform a weekly switchgear and salvage transformer inventory
Maintain electronic and physical files to track information specific to cable inventory
Count and verify inventory and maintain records using a preset schedule
Safely operate, maintain, and fill out daily inspection sheets for the forklift used to load, unload, and transport materials
Prepare shipments, maintain shipping records, and send appropriate documentation to Accounting for all material sent through shipping carriers
Adhere to and be actively involved by carrying out all safety procedures set by the City of Loveland. Maintain and promote a safe work environment, identify unsafe or hazardous situations and take corrective measures during all phases of shipping, receiving and warehouse work
Complete and document monthly safety inspection of the warehouse
Use math skills to convert conductor weight to footage
Deliver tools, equipment, and materials to crews in the field as needed
Assist Public Works with unloading of road marking paint, car wash soap containers, and traffic poles/arms that may be up to 50 feet long
Assist Fleet Management and Tech Services with unloading of pumps, motors, and other miscellaneous equipment
Perform general cleanup of the warehouse and storage yard
Must adhere to strict environmental policies. Monitor compliance of the SPCC plan through measurements of precipitation events, document and clean up if any oil discharge from transformers occurs, and only drain water contained within the transformer storage area that is clear of oil
Perform regular maintenance on battery-operated lifts
Become familiar with and follow warehouse operating procedures
Performs other duties as assigned

Required

High School diploma or GED required
3 years utility or warehouse experience required
Must possess a valid driver's license
Certification as a forklift operator, or ability to obtain certification, or recertification, within one (1) month of hire date
Certified in CPR and First Aid or ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire date
Comply with all City of Loveland required training, such as HazMat loading/unloading, Safety Data Sheet (SDS) and FEMA/NIMS as needed
Working knowledge of computers
Possess strong customer service skills, accurate data entry and detail oriented skills
General knowledge of utility materials, tools and equipment
Must know and be able to follow strict safety practices and procedures
Ability to accurately file and retain various records
Must possess math skills, including calculations involving decimals
Frequent moderate to considerable physical effort that includes working from ladders in awkward positions
Frequent use of light or medium weight objects (e.g., 25-50 lbs) and use of medium weight tools
Occasional exposure to hazards that are predictable or well protected against
Occasional exposure to heat and noise along with working outside in the elements
