Facilities Ops Technician II - Maintenance - Offsite Clinics

Responsibilities

Proactively maintains all aspects of the assigned area of responsibility
Consults with customers on priority of work and assumes full ownership of customer problems and equipment breakdowns. Serves as liaison between customer and Property Services (Physical Plant)
Performs detailed inspections of equipment for proper operation. Informs appropriate supervisory or managerial personnel of unusual conditions, problems, or deficiencies and takes appropriate action
Performs major repairs on complex systems and supporting equipment
Starts up, shuts down, and adjusts equipment or systems in accordance with established operational and safety procedures
Performs preventative or corrective maintenance tasks as assigned and within timelines
Identifies maintenance needs and performs proactive repairs before breakdown occurs
Train and mentor new personnel in the area of expertise as required. Teaches basic knowledge of codes and proper tool use
Reads and interprets and provides 'marked up' blueprints/drawings for corrections when needed
Attends and participates in project designs, reviews, shutdowns, project meetings, final inspections and commissioning
Supports area shift coverage, on-call duties, and after-hours or extended projects as needed for an institution that operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week
Participate in disaster/hurricane preparedness list i.e. E1A (Ride out team) or E1B (Recovery team)
Complete all UTMB-required compliance training
Attends staff, training, and safety meetings
Identifies and reports safety hazards
Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure
Performs related duties as required

Qualification

Required

High School diploma or recognized equivalent
One journeyman level industrial/commercial craft/trade as approved by Property Services Leadership (i.e. Plumbing, Mechanical, HVAC, Structural, Instrumentation/Electronics, Refrigeration, Electronics/Fire Alarms)
Texas state license or approved equal license with two years of experience at journeymen level
Recognized apprentice program or trade school with two years of experience at journeymen level
Community college certification, or associate degree in a related field with two years of experience at journeymen level
NCCER training program or other UTMB approved certification with two years of experience at journeymen level
8 years Industrial/Heavy Commercial experience in at least one craft (Job information and references are required to validate 8 years Industrial/ Heavy Commercial experience relative to our environment)
Must be capable of demonstrating the ability to perform the essential functions of the job in a post-offer employment test as administered by UTMB Rehab Services
Ability to lift up to 100 lbs. floor to knuckle
Requires frequent bending, standing and walking
Perform at a journeyman level in at least one distinct industrial/commercial trade craft (Plumbing, Mechanical, Electrical, HVAC, Structural, Instrumentation/Electronics, Refrigeration, Electronics/Fire Alarms) for maintenance and repair of heavy commercial building infrastructure and equipment

Basic computer skills and the ability to use and operate handheld electronic communication devices
Skills associated with diagnostic testing equipment
Standard hospital, clinical, laboratory, and/or office environments
May be exposed to such occupational hazards such as communicable diseases and harmful chemicals
Some exposure to weather and physical hazards
Exposure to mechanical and electrical hazards and may be required to work in high locations or crawlspaces
Exposure to areas under construction
Usual working conditions found in craft shops and mechanical rooms
Exposure to adverse weather conditions or temperature extremes
Exposure to electrical/mechanical hazards
Proper safety and precaution must be closely observed when operating and repairing specialized equipment and systems
Climb ladders and stairways and work on building rooftops of high elevation
Work in confined spaces such as ceilings, under floor crawlspaces, and manholes
Specific job requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to this classification may render this position security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215, Texas Education Code
The successful candidate may be required to pass a Department of Justice security clearance
