Specifications Writer

Responsibilities

Draft and edit technical specification documents that clearly outline materials, standards, and workmanship for a construction project
Provide updates to existing elevator and escalator specifications as well as develop specifications to be used for future elevator and escalator replacements and modernization as required
Work with project teams, including architects and project managers, to discuss requirements, review documents, and resolve issues throughout the project lifecycle
Create work plans for elevator and escalator modernization
Assist in the development of predictive maintenance plans using historical and real-time data
Document lessons learned and integrate feedback from stakeholders into future specifications
Provide draft copies of all documents to relevant stakeholders prior to finalization
Respond to all comments regarding draft documents and attend all required meetings

Required

Bachelor's degree in Technical Writing, Engineering, Communications, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
5+ years of experience in technical writing in the heavy civil or transportation construction industry
Strong understanding of construction materials, methods, and building codes
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite/Office 365 (e.g., Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
Excellent multi-tasking and organizational skills
Collaborative mindset that fosters teamwork, trust, and positive relationships
Natural curiosity, problem-solving abilities, and a passion for continuous improvement

Preferred

Master's degree in Technical Writing, Engineering, or Communications
Certified Construction Specifier (CCS) or Construction Documents Technologist (CDT) from the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI)
Strong command of ASME A17.1, A17.2, A17.3 and NFPA specifications standards
Strong understanding of vertical transportation systems (elevators and escalators)
