Responsibilities

Provide customer service to citizens and employees who contact the Department of Risk Management for assistance in the filing and handling of general, automotive, and Workers' Compensation claims
Work within a team and sometimes independently

Qualification

Required

Bachelor's in Criminal Justice, Business, Insurance Management or other related field of study preferred OR a combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in Business or a related field from an accredited college or university with major coursework in a field directly related to claims handling
Requires extensive knowledge of the Virginia Worker's Compensation Act, risk management financing and claims handling
Three (3) years of claims handling experience required
A minimum of three (3) years of full-time equivalent experience in planning, implementing or evaluating workers' compensation and liability claims in Virginia
Must possess a valid driver's license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driver's record based on the City of Hampton's criteria
Must successfully pass a background check related to this position prior to any offer of employment or promotion
This position is safety sensitive and is subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances in accordance with the City's current substance abuse policy

Preferred

Three (3) years of experience working with municipal government, understanding of interdepartmental knowledge relationship experience preferred
Associate in Claims (AIC) preferred
