La Mesa-Spring Valley School District is seeking a Paraprofessional-Special Education for their Extended School Services department. The role involves working part-time with children who have various disabilities, assisting them with personal care, academic goals, and social skills development.

Responsibilities

Administers basic first aid and CPR as necessary
Assists in shaping appropriate student behavior through positive reinforcement and other strategies; redirects inappropriate student behavior according to established policies, techniques and procedures
Assists in the collection of data, monitoring and charting of student behavior
Assists students with performing and developing proper social behavior, personal hygiene and daily self-help skills; assists students with eating activities, mobility assistance and use of adaptive equipment; toilet students, change diapers and soiled clothing as assigned by the position
Assists students, individually or in small groups, with lesson assignments; assists students in reaching academic goals and grade level standards
Assists the ESS Site Lead in responding to inquiries from a variety of sources; resolves issues, provides information and/or direction to other sources
Assists with arrangement and storage of materials, furniture and accessories for appropriate learning environment
Assists with reinforcing instruction to individual or small groups of students with special learning needs in various learning environments; monitors and oversees student drills, practices and assignments in various subjects
Assists with the implementation of instructional programs, lesson plans, and enrichment activities
Assists with the implementation of academic, emotional, social, physical and behavioral goals and objectives
Assists with the planning of learning and/or age appropriate activities; presents and/or reinforces learning concepts
Communicates with department personnel to exchange information and resolve issues or concerns
Coordinates and/or oversees individual and/or groups of students in a variety of settings; provides a safe and positive learning and recreational environment
Develops and implements craft activities
Distributes crafts, play materials, and/or required supplies
Escorts students to and from designated locations as directed; pushes students in wheelchairs
Maintains program equipment and work areas; ensures availability of items and/or providing a safe learning and recreational environment
Observes and controls behavior of students in a variety of school environments according to approved procedures; monitors and interacts with students during activities as directed
Operates a variety of office and classroom equipment including a copier, computer and assigned software; assists students in the operation of a variety of instructional aids, computer assisted instructional programs and other adaptive equipment, assistive devices or mobility related equipment
Promotes appropriate student behavior and good habits through implementation of a discipline plan for the purpose of improving the quality of student outcomes and encouraging student development
Serves nutritious snacks; ensures students receive proper nutritional items to meet federal and state guidelines
Transfers children directly from/to parents or designee; ensures the safety of students and meets the District and program requirements
Attends and participates in meetings, in-service trainings, workshops and conferences
Performs related duties as assigned

Required

Experience working with children in an organized setting
Possess an Associate's Degree or higher (submit copy of degree with application)
Completed 48 units of college work (submit transcripts with application)
Successful completion of the Every Student Succeeds Act (formerly known as NCLB) Exam given by La Mesa – Spring Valley School District (submit copy of certificate with application)
Valid First Aid and CPR Certificate issued by an authorized agency
Graduation from secondary school or equivalent GED and some experience working with students in an educational or organized learning environment
Successful passage of the District's Job Related Proficiency Test
