Responsibilities
Responsible for all of the functions of processing tissue samples for histological diagnosis by a pathologist including grossing, embedding, microtomy, special stains and processing Immunohistochemistry slides
Grosses sections of human tissue for examination
Operates laboratory equipment to embed, section and stain specimens
Operates equipment to perform special staining and Immunohistochemistry stains as requested, including manual staining as required
Examines slides under microscope to ensure slides meet laboratory quality standards
Follows all departmental and organizational policies, procedures, quality objectives and safety standards and keeps current with changes in laboratory processes and procedures
Performs maintenance on laboratory equipment, including but not limited to, preventative, routine and troubleshooting
Other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Associate's degree in applied sciences in Histology or Medical Laboratory Technology required
Completing an Associate degree program in a natural science or a clinical laboratory science, and coursework acceptable to the NYSED required
Histotechnologist, NYSED Histotechnologist license required upon hire or
Clinical Laboratory Technologist, NYSED Clinical Laboratory Technologist license required upon hire
Preferred
Previous experience as a histology technician preferred
Knowledge of anatomy, histology, and chemistry preferred
