Veterinary Technician - WisCARES

The Universities of Wisconsin is a leading educational institution, and they are seeking a Veterinary Technician II for their WisCARES program. This role involves providing veterinary care and social services to low-income or homeless pet owners, overseeing animal care, and assisting in the training of veterinary students.

Responsibilities

Documents and disseminates results to the appropriate entities
Monitors animal health status and records, provides nursing care, notifies veterinarian when status changes, and records in the medical record
Completes appropriate laboratory tests and collects specimens according to established medical orders and care plans
Tracks supply inventory levels and places replenishment orders
Develops recordkeeping processes, maintains organization of and updates records related to medical procedures and billing
Prepares, completes, and documents basic technical animal care procedures, assessments, and medication administration according to established care plans and medical necessity
Assists with the execution of more complex animal care procedures and affiliated activities
Maintains organization of and updates records related to medical procedures and billing
Completes routine laboratory tests and collects specimen according to established medical orders and care plans
Documents and disseminates results to the appropriate entities
Serves as a point of contact for animal owners and stakeholders providing information and answering questions
Monitors animal health status and records, notifies veterinarian when status changes, and ensures care plans are completed and recorded in the medical record
Supports DVM and other healthcare students who are volunteering or completing an educational rotation at WisCARES
Helps train veterinary assistants and volunteers on tasks such as cleaning, sorting, laboratory work, and basic animal holding/restraint skills
Prepares, completes, monitors, and documents complex technical animal care procedures and work unit activities, assessments, and medication administration according to established care plans and medical necessity
Serves as a point of contact for animal owners and stakeholders providing information and answering questions
