DPS Police Cadet/Officer/Sr. Officer/Corporal

Responsibilities
Conducts proactive police patrols, issues citations, investigates crashes, and responds to all calls for service
Patrols assigned area to deter and prevent criminal activity
Investigates crashes, keeps bystanders out of danger, renders first aid, questions drivers and witnesses and prepares narrative reports of conditions and causes of crashes
Supervises the removal of injured persons and vehicles to restore highway safety and normal traffic flow
Regularly conducts investigations of any crime or complaint within the patrol area; documents findings and enlists assistance if necessary
May serve as a Field Training Officer for newly hired officers
Inspects and maintains equipment
Qualification
Required
No experience or training is required
Applicants must be at least 21 years of age
Possession of a current driver's license
Willingness and ability to attain a Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification
An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified by the hiring agency until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted
Applicants must live within 75 miles of their assigned location
Applicants must be able to qualify with firearms, complete advanced driver and weapons training, pass a thorough background investigation, and meet all annual training requirements
Non-POST certified applicants may be required to pass a physical assessment that consists of a timed 1.5-mile run, push-ups, and sit-ups
Applicants must have Civil Service test scores for the 2100-Protective Services Exam (PSE) to be considered for this vacancy unless exempted by Civil Service rules or policy

POST-certified applicants are encouraged to apply
Applicants who are POST-certified are exempt from taking the 2100–PSE (Protective Services Exam) in accordance to Civil Service Rule 22.8(e)
