Community Service Official I

NEOGOV is seeking a Community Service Official I to support the Police Department's Traffic Division. This role involves performing a range of administrative and technical duties, including organizing community safety events and ensuring compliance with local ordinances.

Responsibilities

Knowledge of techniques, principles, and procedures for planning, scheduling, assigning, evaluating, and monitoring daily activities and operations of community services, activities, and public safety fieldwork; reports to the Traffic Supervisor or assigned department head
Participates in various law enforcement activities, including appearing in court for criminal and civil matters
Operates department computer equipment to review records, inquire about activities and programs, and input data
Enforces violations of City Code and State law related to parking
Responds to traffic-related and mission-specific, designated by supervisor, calls for services
Assist with traffic control efforts throughout the City to assist sworn police personnel
Assist with traffic control efforts during tactical and EOD events
Respond to assist the Midland Fire Department with traffic control efforts on related fire calls for services
Assist with traffic control escorts throughout the City
Assist MPD Commercial Vehicle Enforcement personnel with oversized load escorts and CVE inspections
Works irregular hours, including weekends, holidays, and extended hours in emergencies, disasters, or other situations influenced by workload, staffing, or equipment-related repair problems
Must be able to communicate clearly under what, at times, could be highly stressful situations
Interacts and works with citizens regarding existing and potential law enforcement and crime prevention concerns and responds to requests and inquiries from the general public

Required

Any combination of education and experience that has provided the knowledge, skills, and ability necessary for a Community Services Official I/II/III
Six months of administrative and technical experience preferred, and a high school diploma or equivalent
Knowledge of techniques, principles, and procedures for planning, scheduling, assigning, evaluating, and monitoring daily activities and operations of community services, activities, and public safety fieldwork
Participates in various law enforcement activities, including appearing in court for criminal and civil matters
Operates department computer equipment to review records, inquire about activities and programs, and input data
Enforces violations of City Code and State law related to parking
Responds to traffic-related and mission-specific, designated by supervisor, calls for services

Knowledge of Administrative Directives of the City of Midland and the Police Department, including MPD General Orders
Knowledge of pertinent State, local laws, codes, regulations, interprets, and applies as necessary
Knowledge of technical aspects of crime prevention and law enforcement, including investigation and identification, patrol, traffic control, records management, and care of custody of property
Knowledge of the geography of the City and its surrounding vicinity
Knowledge of operational characteristics, services, and activities of the patrol program
Skill in communicating clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
Skill to plan, organize, and manage time effectively
Skill to resolve a variety of situations
Knowledge of law enforcement and criminal justice system principles
Knowledge of standard office procedures, practices, and equipment, including a computer and applicable software, basic principles of mathematics, methods, and techniques for record-keeping, report preparation, and writing

Preferred

Specialized coursework in public administration, public safety, or a related field is highly desirable
