Maintenance Mechanic IV

Responsibilities

Makes any necessary carpentry and related changes/upgrades to the facility
Responsible for all interior painting of the Health Department facilities Painting is an on-going part of this position as offices are painted as needed when positions become vacant
Assists with moving furniture, equipment and other items to and from the buildings to the warehouse as needed
Performs maintenance as needed when plumbing problems arise, responds to HVAC problems and handles electrical problems that do not require a licensed electrician
Responsible for scheduling the disposition of confidential records according to State guidelines
Works with Fire Department and safety committee to facilitate Fire and Safety Inspections of the Health Department and make any necessary changes
Performs outdoor maintenance including but not limited to de-icing and clearing of sidewalks and parking lot as necessary and complete/assist with landscaping projects
Assist with any county vehicle problems that are with this position expertise
Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
This position is also responsible for work with the Deputy Director in contacting the appropriate contractor, obtaining quotes and scheduling necessary repairs and construction when it is out of the area of their expertise
Will also be responsible for scheduling contract lawn and floor maintenance

Required

Working knowledge of the methods, practices, tools, and materials used in the general maintenance and repair of buildings, equipment, and machinery
Working knowledge of low-pressure heating plant operations
Skill in the use of acetylene and electric welding equipment
Ability to understand and work from sketches or penciled drawings
Ability to operate the more common types of machine shop equipment
Ability to supervise the work of semiskilled, unskilled or skilled workers
Valid driver's license in the State of North Carolina
High school or General Educational Development diploma and two years of progressive experience in the assigned trades areas; or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Preferred

License or certification in the assigned trade areas (Plumbing, electrical, etc.)
