The City of Pompano Beach is hiring for the position of Part Time Ocean Rescue Lifeguard. This role involves patrolling the beach to ensure safety for patrons, performing rescues, administering first aid, and providing emergency care as needed.

Responsibilities

Technical and responsible work patrolling the City beach to provide the safest possible conditions for beach patrons
Includes rescuing swimmers in distress, administering first aid and basic life support, providing on-scene emergency care and transport of patients, informing the public of City Ordinances, and general maintenance
Performs other duties as assigned

Qualification

Lifeguard certificationCPR certificationOcean lifeguard experienceWater safety knowledgeFlorida Driver’s LicensePhysical fitnessPublic rapport

Required

High school diploma or equivalent; higher education a plus
Valid Florida Driver's License
Nationally recognized lifeguard certification (American Red Cross, YMCA, United States Lifesaving Association)
Significant verifiable ocean lifeguard experience or US Military Rescue Swimmer (e.g. USCG Rescue Swimmer) may be substituted for the lifeguard certificate
American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer or American Heart Association Health Care Provider
Must pass required swim & rescue skills test, physical, and drug screening
Knowledge of water safety rules and regulations
Ability to establish rapport with the general public, fellow workers, and supervisors
Sedentary work to extreme labor-intensive work based on rescue situations. Physical abilities include swimming, running, walking, standing, sitting, carrying, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, pulling, pushing, climbing, lifting, hearing, talking, and seeing
Outside work under all weather conditions
Occupational hazards include possible exposure to communicable diseases, bites/stings from marine life

Previous Ocean Lifeguard experience preferred
