PARKS LIGHT EQUIPMENT OPERATOR I

NEOGOV is seeking a Parks Light Equipment Operator I for the City of Brownwood, TX. This non-supervisory position is responsible for operating equipment for mowing and maintaining city-owned properties, as well as performing routine grounds maintenance tasks.

Responsibilities

Operate tractor with mower attachments
Operate power mower, hedge trimmers, edger and weed eater when required
Perform routine grounds maintenance, including cutting grass, trimming hedges and trees, planting grass, watering, filling holes, picking up litter and other debris
Perform preventative maintenance on equipment
Assist in the general clean-up of all areas of the city, including downtown, as directed by the Parks Supervisor
Assist in repairs of fences, gates, walls, playground equipment and bleachers including painting and plumbing
Operates welder and cutting torch
Assist in moving tables, chairs and other equipment to various locations as directed by Parks Supervisor
Cleans restrooms in park and recreational buildings
Perform other duties as assigned by Parks Supervisor

Required

Must be able to read & write effectively for this position
Must be able to comprehend and speak the English language
Valid Texas Driver's License

Preferred

A high school diploma or G.E.D. is a plus but not required

Benefits

Pay will increase by 3% after successful completion of 6-month probationary period.
Additional $4 a month (max $150mo) based on number of years with the City.
Additional $25-$125 per month based on position and certification level.
Additional $53-$106 per month based on frequency of on-call status.
12 paid holidays—New Years, MLK Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veteran’s Day, Thanksgiving Day and the Friday after (2 days), and Christmas and Christmas Eve or day after (2 days).
Paid vacation leave available after 6 months, accrues at the rate of 10 days per year. (Every 5 years it increases 1 day up to 15 per year.)
Paid sick leave available after 6 months, accrues at the rate of 15 days per year. Other leaves—Funeral, Military, FMLA and other leaves are available as well.
Health coverage through Texas Health Benefits Poole (TXHB), with BlueCross BlueShield of Texas as the provider, is offered to employees at no cost, and includes vision, prescription, life insurance and a Health Reimbursement Account (HRA) or Health Savings Account (HSA) Benefits Debit Card.
The Retirement Plan is through Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS). The plan vests after 5 years of service, and retirement is after 20 years of service, or age 60. Participation is required, with 7% retirement contributions deducted from your paycheck. The City matches your contribution at a 2 to 1 ratio (14%), and interest is added annually to your account.
