Responsibilities

Supervise organization of District Cafe
Purchase materials and food for cafe and catering service
Plan, organize, schedule, and supervise preparation, cooking, baking, packaging, and distribution of foods
Participate, as necessary, in preparation of foods and baked goods
Estimate amount of food products to be prepared daily and weekly
Analyze and determine quantity of foodstuffs, supplies, and materials needed; request and maintain an appropriate inventory
Supervise and participate in wrapping, arranging, and storing foods to ensure appropriate and efficient use of foodstuffs and supplies
Maintain portion and quality control standards
Instruct, demonstrate, and train Nutrition Services personnel in food preparation, packaging, and service procedures
Supervise and coordinate cleaning of food preparation facility to ensure that food preparation areas are maintained in an orderly, clean, safe, and sanitary condition
Review, inspect, and supervise receipt and storage of food items, supplies, and materials to ensure accuracy and quality
Maintain files and records, including equipment servicing schedules, inventory control, and personnel-related records
Prepare periodic Nutrition Services activity and production reports, personnel time reports, and other related reports
Monitor, observe, review, and evaluate performance of nutrition service personnel
Audit and monitor cash receipts and banking processes
Implement security measures against vandalism and theft
Implement planning and preparation of catering services. Catering services will be provided District-wide and to outside public venues
Participate in professional development opportunities offered by department, school site, and District

Required

Two years' experience at a level equivalent to a catering or restaurant manager, which includes quantity food preparation, service, and kitchen maintenance in a commercial, institutional or school food service facility, including one year of lead or supervisory experience in a high quantity food preparation, baking, and service and packaging operation
Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade and two years or more of culinary schooling and/or college courses in food management, including or supplemented by coursework or training in nutrition, menu planning, quantity cooking, safety, sanitation, or other related areas
Possess a State of California-approved Serve-Safe Protection Manager Certification
Skill to plan, organize, and supervise work of others
Skill to prepare, package, and serve quantities of foods and baked goods
Skill to operate a variety of equipment utilized in a food processing facility
Skill to make mathematic computations with speed and accuracy
Skill to communicate effectively in both oral and written form within a culturally diverse environment
Skill to understand and carry out work with minimal supervision
Skill to maintain records and prepare accurate, complete reports
Skill to operate basic computers, program software, and other electronic devices
Knowledge of health and safety regulations
Knowledge of safe, healthful, and sanitary working methods, procedures, and regulations
Knowledge of use and care of standard cafeteria appliances, equipment, and utensils
Knowledge of methods, techniques, and strategies of organization, supervision, and employee evaluation
Knowledge of methods and operational procedures for requisitioning, receiving, and storing food items and supplies
Knowledge of equity, access, and inclusion practices as it relates to all program participants
Ability to use culinary techniques in displaying food when conducting a catering function
Ability to organize, schedule, coordinate, and supervise work of others
Ability to foster a positive, team-oriented work environment by building cooperative relationships with coworkers, the public, and parents
Ability to promote team building and an inclusive environment that fosters a healthy culture, sense of belonging, and strong collaboration
Ability to prioritize and identify needs and solve problems independently as appropriate
Ability to plan, organize, and oversee catering events, including arranging for large-scale gatherings (up to 500 guests) and coordinating with clients to meet service requirements
Ability to work with customers to meet their interests while adhering to food service requirements
Ability to handle difficult situations using good judgment
Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism in keeping needs of customers a top priority
Ability to receive and incorporate constructive criticism; adapt easily to work assignments, additional priorities, and new procedures
Ability to demonstrate cultural competence and responsiveness in communications and decision-making
Ability to efficiently use and manage time; meet deadlines

Benefits

The District offers a comprehensive package of insurance benefits.
Employees working less than full-time, but a minimum of four hours will contribute an amount proportionate to the number of assigned work hours for major medical insurance benefits.
The District does not offer a package of insurance benefits to employees working less than four hours per day.
The District provides life insurance for employees who work a minimum of 3 hours.
In addition, the District offers a retirement plan which uses joint employee and employer contributions.
