Responsibilities
Communications Electrician Trainees participate in a comprehensive training program and receive intensive on-the-job instruction to learn general knowledge, procedures, and practices to perform skilled hands-on work in the installation, construction, repair, maintenance, programming, and modification of electronic monitoring and control systems, video systems, medical equipment, avionics systems, communications systems including radio, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), radar, signal, telephone, telemetering, microwave, fiber optic, local/wide area networks, data transmission, and associated systems and equipment
This work monitors, controls, and communicates facilities such as fire dispatch and signal systems; fire, police, and other private City telephone systems, and associated equipment; and does related work
Incumbents receive evaluations periodically as the training progresses to ensure performance milestones are met and critical competencies are assessed
These are intended to develop the skills, knowledge, and abilities necessary to qualify for transition to the Communications Electrician Assistant classification
Qualification
Required
Current placement in the Bridge-to-Jobs candidate pool with the City of Los Angeles
A letter of recommendation from the personnel office of the employing City department, which includes a statement on the department's willingness to hire the employee as a Communications Electrician Trainee. The letter must be attached to the application at the time of filing
A valid Class C driver's license issued by the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) at the time of appointment for positions in the department of Information Technology Agency (ITA), Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD), Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA), Public Works - Bureau of Sanitation, and Recreation and Parks
