Collection Equipment Operator I
NEOGOV is seeking a Collection Equipment Operator I to join the County of Sacramento's Waste Management & Recycling department. The role involves operating heavy duty refuse collection vehicles, delivering containers, and unloading refuse and recyclables at designated facilities under close supervision.

Qualification
Required
One year of full time paid experience in the waste management and recycling field, or in operating commercial vehicles that require a Commercial Driver's License, Class B, such as large bus, box truck, tow truck, cement mixer, dump truck, or garbage truck
Possession of a valid Commercial Driver's License Class B, or higher, without an Airbrake restriction
Knowledge of applicable laws, rules and regulations related to refuse collection and disposal
Knowledge of procedures, methods, and equipment including computers and applicable software applications such as databases and other specialized applications related to area of assignment
Knowledge of two-way radio communication devices, and other related equipment
Knowledge of basic arithmetic (i.e., addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, decimals, percentages, ratios, and fractions)
Knowledge of English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation
Knowledge of proper methods of lifting and carrying heavy loads
Knowledge of procedures and policies pertaining to refuse and other source separated recyclable material collection and disposal
Knowledge of heavy duty vehicle and equipment operation
Knowledge of safety rules and regulations pertaining to refuse and other recyclable material collections and equipment operation
Knowledge of principles of effective customer service
Ability to develop and maintain cooperative, effective working relationships with co-workers and the public
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing
Ability to analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action
Ability to effectively organize and prioritize work assignments
Ability to complete and submit department forms when required
Ability to keep accurate and orderly records
Ability to make arithmetical computations accurately and rapidly
Ability to maintain confidential information
Ability to read, understand, and adhere to County and department policies and procedures relating to area of assignment
Ability to interpret and apply applicable federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations
Ability to apply customer service skills, including the identification of customer needs and follow up to ensure customer commitments have been met
Ability to adapt to new technologies, work processes, and equipment
Ability to anticipate traffic patterns and run routes efficiently
Ability to operate two, three and four-axle trucks including equipment with dual drive
Criminal History and Background Checks: The County may access criminal history information on candidates who have accepted a conditional offer of appointment for this class consistent with the provisions of Board of Supervisors Resolution No. 82-602, Personnel Policies, and applicable federal and state laws
The County may also conduct a background check on the candidate prior to appointment to a position within this class
A valid California Driver License (CDL), Class B or higher without an Airbrake restriction, shall be required at the time of appointment
Positions in this class require the incumbents to be able to stand and walk on a daily basis
Positions in this class require the incumbents to be able to sit for extended periods of time, while operating equipment
Positions in this class require the incumbents to be able to occasionally bend, stoop, squat, kneel, twist/turn or crouch
Positions in this class require the incumbents to be able to climb on and off equipment
Positions in this class require the incumbents to be able to occasionally lift objects weighing up to 75 pounds without assistance; in excess of 75 pounds with assistance
Positions in this class require the incumbents to be able to occasionally tip, push or pull objects weighing up to 100 pounds without assistance; in excess of 100 pounds with assistance
Positions in this class require the incumbents to have sufficient strength, stamina and agility to perform medium to heavy manual labor for periods of time
Positions in this class require the incumbent to work outside in all types of climatic conditions including inclement and very hot weather
Positions in this class require the incumbent to work around dust, dirt, odors, and refuse
Positions in this class require the incumbent to work in loud or noisy areas
Positions in this class require the incumbent to work around machinery and equipment with moving parts
Positions in this class require the incumbent to work in enclosed tight spaces
Positions in this class require the incumbent to work various shift, overtime, weekends, holidays and non-routine hours
